Presidents

This week we had so much fun learning about presidents and our country with Mrs. B., our student teacher.  I'm so proud of her!  She has done a great job with the kids and they absolutely love her.  Below are some pics of us in action and some are not action shots b/c I forgot to snap the pictures.  Enjoy!

We are learning to recognize coins and their value.  This game is helping us learn just that.

I made this little odd/even game a couple of years ago and my kids like it so much I've made several more since then.  They just roll the number cube.  Next, they count out the pennies alternating between presidents.  Last, they have to decide if it's odd or even depending on if they have the same amount of pennies or not.

Practicing our addition skills with pennies.

Sorting and graphing coins

Stamping the middle vowel sounds for the pictures.

Practicing writing sight words

Sounding out CVC words

Mrs. B. let us "play" on our ActivBoard learning about money and coins.

Here is an example of our Abe Lincoln hats.  On the back is an envelope where each student got to put an important piece of paper in it just like Abe did with his hat.

Mrs. B. let us make American Flags with graham crackers, icing, twizzlers, and blueberries.
Thanks to Bailee's mom for providing the snack items!

The finished product...cute!

Stylish Blog Award

WOW!  I received the stylish blogger award by kinder-pond.blogspot.comhttp://burstoffirst.blogspot.com/2011/02/for-me.html,& http://mrskilburnkiddos.wordpress.com/, and http://mrsbecksgotclass.blogspot.com/.  Thank you ladies for giving my blog this award.  It means a lot.  I love blogging about things going on in my classroom.  So. Much. Fun!  Here goes!

1. Thank and link back to the person who awarded you this award.
2. Share 7 things about yourself.
3. Award 5 recently discovered great bloggers.
4. Contact these bloggers and tell them about the award.

7 Facts about me:

1.  I am a CHRISTIAN.  I fail my savior in so many ways each day, but I know HE loves me no matter what.  Kind of like we love our school kids no matter how much trouble they get in to.

2.  I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have two beautiful girls.

3.  I have an identical twin sister, Amy.  We have the same thoughts all the time...seriously.

4.  I'm addicted to Mt. Dew and Skittles Blenders.  If you haven't tried them, you must.

5.  I have the craziest dreams every night....my husband knows when I talk to him first thing in the morning it will most likely be about some weird dream I've had.  I'm told I take after my grandmother on that.

6.  I'm OCD about stepping on cracks and making my feet feel "even" when I walk.  (yeah...weird...I know)

7.  I love my life although it seems pretty boring to most.  I love just hanging out with my family playing games and watching movies.

Okay, that was hard.

Here is who I am awarding the stylish blogging award to:  These are all great blogs and I enjoy reading them.

Community Helpers and Career Day

Our student teacher Mrs. B. started her 10 days of teaching this week and she did fabulous with the kids.  I am so impressed.  The kids love her!  She taught us about community helpers this week.  To end the week our school celebrated our annual Career Day.  Here are pictures of her teaching, the kids learning, and us just having fun!  Okay, so there are a ton of pictures, but we just had so much fun this week I couldn't help myself.  Enjoy!

Being bakers, flipping cookies to read color words was so much fun!

We rolled the die to fill the mouth with teeth...marshmallows

Covering cavities because we don't want those.  We had to roll a die and a +/- cube to add or take away.  They loved this game.

We pretended to be mail workers by opening mail and reading number words then writing the number.

We rolled a coin die to buy pizza toppings for our pizza.

Mrs. B. has been teaching us how to tell time to the hour.  We played this fun game to practice reading clocks.

We are also working on "how many more" so we built towers then decided the answer.

Some of us in our cute little tool belts after learning about construction workers.

Still lovin' the roll a word game.

Here we are opening more mail, but this time reading sight words.

In this game we practiced spelling CVC words.

I found these cute cookies at Target and knew I could use them for something.  We flipped them to read sight words and at this station we had to write them.

Mrs. B. in guided reading groups.

Mrs. B. had the kiddos graph how many teeth they have lost.

Playing a blends game.  They are getting so good at blends!

Practicing telling time with foam clocks Mrs. B. found at a thrift store for CHEAP!

Reading The Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins to practice fractions.

Here they are having to "share" their cookies because two friends rang the doorbell and came in to eat.

Yay!  We all have one!

Our cute fireman hats.

Mrs. B. made cupcakes for us so we could be chefs.  We decorated them with icing and lots of different toppings.

O.K. Aren't these chef hast ADORABLE!  I will be doing these every year!  So cute!

Yum!
