Pumpkins
So much for a cute blog post title...my brain's already asleep! We studied pumpkins this week and learned the letter Pp. Check out a few of our centers and fun activities from the week...Yep....that's all I've got.
My Pumpkinlicious Unit on tpt has some of these center ideas...the polkadot pumpkin page came from the Autumn Math and Literacy Centers by me and Deanna.
You can find the pumpkin investigation under the freebies label on my sidebar.
My pumpkin unit includes a fun graphing activity. I forgot to take a pic of the graph, but each student grabs a pumpkin face from the bucket...then whoever is doing the center has to survey their friends to see which pumpkin they got. They loved it!
The pumpkin floated...to their surprise
We completed the pumpkin investigation except for counting our pumpkin' seeds...not enough time
We learned the poem Five Little Pumpkins and made this to take home to retell to our families. This is made from die-cuts.
On pajama day I always read The Napping House, one of my faves, and Goodnight Moon. Then, we sleep and wake up only when we hear rhyming words. I got this idea from Mrs. Flannagan who no longer has her website, but I do it every year...so much fun!
We learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin and made these cute pumpkins...the back has 1/2 a paper plate stapled to it to make a pocket which holds the sequence cards.

Spider Fun
I hate SPIDERS! But, we have had fun this week doing our spider centers and activities and it's been interesting learning about spiders. It's funny...they all knew that Mrs. Lee was afraid of spider when we graphed that question. Funny what they pick up on.
Here we are using one of the memory games from my October Intervention Pack...we have had so much fun using this pack!
Here are some of our spider centers this week...these are all included in my Spider Unit. I just posted it to TpT last night.
We had so much fun acting out The Itsy Bitsy Spider.
I found this adorable mask at Target last year in the dollar section. I just knew I could use it for something and it came in handy for this fun little activity.
You can check our these fun center games HERE! :)

Strategies & Intervention Fun
Y'all...my kiddos are finally beginning to "get it" in letter naming. For the most part we know the letters in our name now and are remembering the letters we are learning with our reading series. Intervention can be so boring if you let it...my EL learners struggle with language barriers so initial sounds is so very hard for them. They just can't retain the pictures because they don't know them. The little ISF game below REALLY helps them learn how to play the "sound game". They are starting to get it. Here we are using the game from my October Small Groups and Intervention Pack. This pack really makes my intervention time fun and worthwhile!
Here, the students are using the letter naming strips from the pack also. We are getting really good at this strip before we move on. They got so tickled over the witch fingers when I brought them out...and it was a huge HIT! Go to Target Dollar Section now to get your own!
On another note, we are learning about spiders this week so we practiced positional words with a foam spider. I say, "Put the spider at the top of your body."...or middle of your arm, and so forth...you get the idea. It was fun!
Coming up...SPIDERS...and the unit is almost ready for tpt!

Apples!
Ummm...did I mention I LOVE fall!?! We had tons of fun with our apple unit this week and still didn't get it all done...we do go to the pumpkin patch tomorrow so that doesn't help, but hopefully we will finish our apple investigations Monday and crossing our fingers to make applesauce using the recipe from Cara over at The First Grade Parade! Here's just a peek at what we did during centers this week...I totally forgot to snap pics this week! I'm late having my apple unit on tpt, but if you want to check it out...it's here.
The roll and cover is included in the unit, BUT of course the apples aren't on the page because it is illegal to sell anything with DJ Inkers clipart or fonts on it.
This cute little counting rhyme is in the unit.
We learned all about Johnny Appleseed.
Remember the cute little labeling activity from Abby? This went along perfect with that!
We ready The Seasons of Arnold's Apple Tree and learned about how the apple the grows.
These little Johnnys turned out too cute! I posted this activity on tpt as well. It's not in the apple unit, but directions and patterns are in the Johnny Appleseed Activity.
