Red Day!

Today was red day.  I keep forgetting our class color pictures, but I took pics of the kids tissue papering their red birds.  Below is our red song from Frog Street Press.  I'm also adding pictures of our math center activities for the day.

Red
(Tune: Are You Sleeping?)
R-e-d red, r-e-d, red.
I can spell red.
I can spell red.
Fire trucks are red.
Stop signs are red too!
R-e-d, r-e-d.

Brown Day!

Today was brown day!  We painted with shaving cream, glue, and brown paint.  When it dries, it will be puffy paint.  The kids had so much fun painting with popsicle sticks.  Below is our brown song that we are learning and put in our poetry journals.

Brown
(Tune: Bingo)
Frog Street Press
There is a color we all know, Can you guess what it is?
b-r-o-w-n, b-r-o-w-n, b-r-o-w-n,
and that's how you spell brown.
Teddy bears and squirrels are brown,
Autumn leaves are too.
Chocolate candy's always brown,
Chocolate cake is always brown,
Chocolate milk is always brown.
We love brown, don't you?  Yes!

Brown Bear, Brown Bear Activities

Friday, we began our Brown Bear unit which correlates right along with our colors theme.  I read the story Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See? by Eric Carle to introduce the colors.  Then, we learned how to use our paintbrushes by painting a Brown Bear mural.  The kids loved it!  This was our first time painting for the new school year.  Two children worked together to paint one section of the color I assigned them.  When it is dry, we use it to match the characters, label the color sections, and to retell the story.  This year, we are doing our color days in the order of Brown Bear, so each day we just look at the mural to see what color is tomorrow's color.  Later in the day, we colored the Brown Bear characters, cut them apart and put them in a brown baggie.  We practiced retelling the story to a partner.  Enjoy the pics!

The finished product!

1st Day of Kindergarten 2010-2011

Our very first day of KINDERGARTEN was GREAT!  We had so much fun, met new friends, found some special places in our school that we will visit each week while we looked for Chester (we didn't find him, but he left us a special "kiss"), read stories, sang songs, went to p.e., colored, glued, and our most fun thing today was playing on the BIG playground.  Below are some pictures of the things we did today.

colored our first picture

making our first TLC project, "Chester"

some were "sleepy heads" during rest time...we had a long day!

and, some weren't so sleepy...

See you tomorrow!

Oceans of Fun in Centers

Here we are working in our ocean centers.  We are telling time, adding, and subtracting in math centers.  I wanted to post a few pics to show what we are learning at school this time of year.

We finished up our zoo unit at school today.  This week we focused on reptiles while last week we did mammals and grassland animals.  In the pictures above you will find us measuring our snakes with links that we cut out and painted.  Each child cut their very own snake, painted it, and then measured it using links.  We wrote our numbers and added forked tongues.  I am also posting a picture of our monkeys we made and our safari guides.  I hope to add a picture of our life size giraffe that we made.  He "ate us".  I'll try to post this afternoon.  The kids learned so much about all these animals...they even surprised me at how much they rememered about each one.  Enjoy!
